Sustainability

Colliers International has long recognised the critical role that the property industry needs to play as the world responds to the challenges of climate change and environmental sustainability. Given our role as one of the world's top property service providers, we have actively provided leadership on sustainability since 2001.

Our leadership extends from addressing the impact of our own operations to influencing our clients across Australia and globally and actively supporting the development of the property industry's knowledge and capability with regards to sustainability. Our leadership is provided in three key areas;

1. Knowledge

We develop and share leading knowledge with our clients, customers and public. Recent examples of our knowledge-based leadership include:

  • The publication of r.e.Design, the Green Real Estate Guide (2008). This is an introduction to the application of sustainability in the real estate industry with practical guides to improving existing buildings (Managing Green), developing new green buildings (Developing Green), obtaining green accommodation (Occupying Green) and reducing your personal footprint (Living Green).
  • Primary research on the demands and expectations of tenants with regards to sustainability in the Colliers International Office Tenant Survey (2008).
  • The launch of our publication Lifeblood, Sustaining the Vitality of Australian Business, the Critical Role of Buildings and Workplaces;(2008) a business centric view of sustainability and office buildings.
  • Hosting of seminars and forums featuring sustainability experts from around the world alongside our own in-house experts.

2. Implementation

We proactively support clients to improve the long term performance of their assets and tenancies and we minimise the impact of our own operations with our Green Office Programme.

3. Market Leadership

We actively support industry initiatives that help to progress sustainability. We are an inaugural member of the Green Building Council of Australia and a foundation member of the World Green Building Council, helping with the establishment of Green Building Councils around the world.

Colliers International is also an inaugural and active signatory of the CitySwitch Green Office programme which promotesenergy efficiency in office tenancies around Australia.

Our Sustainability Programme is steered in Australia by our National Sustainability Council and globally by our Global Sustainability Council.
