Market update

The number of International students across Australia is helping to drive purpose built student accommodation (PBSA) across the country.



It is understood Australia is in the top three destination countries across the world for international students, with its market share still on the rise. The attraction of Australia to foreign students includes the high quality of our education system and the improved perception of a safe country to study. This growth in demand is primarily a consequence of an increase in the global mobility of students particularly from Asia and Australia’s competitiveness amongst other education destinations across the world. 



In recent years there has been significant interest in this unique asset class, with Australia still considered an emerging market compared to more established markets in the UK and US. The sector in Australia is currently in a significant growth phase with a supply gap in many location providing opportunities for operators, developers and investors. 



Within Australia, there have been a number of PBSA developments completed, operational, under construction or currently mooted. The level of investment in this sector has been increasing on a year on year basis and we are witnessing a large weight of capital entering this sector.
