Relocation of Emergency Service - St John NSW buys Burwood Property

16/03/2009

Colliers International has successfully relocated the non-for-profit medical service, St John NSW, from the Sydney CBD to a property in Burwood.

St John NSW recently purchased the five-storey building at 9 Dean Street, for an undisclosed amount from a private investor as its new corporate headquarters.

John McCann, Director of Investment Sales at Colliers International was instrumental in the sale of the organisation's former Hunt Street head quarters in Surry Hills in late 2007, which enable St John to expand and move to central metropolitan Sydney.

"It was a significant move for St John, having a central location providing for better reach of the whole of Sydney, which they perceive to obtain over next 20 to 30 years."

The Dean Street property comprises 2990 sqm with 90 car spaces and was sold with vacant possession.

Built in the early 1980s, St John plans to fully refurbish the building and move in by the end of 2009.

Sean Gavin, Chief Executive Officer at St John NSW, said the location will be a major benefit to the organisation with the rail directly opposite and easy access to the majority of Sydney.

"I am very pleased with the result of Colliers International helping St John NSW relocate to Burwood. We do a lot of work within the Homebush area and it is only 10 minutes from our new head quarters," said Mr Gavin.

Mr McCann said the result was very favourable for St John NSW due to the general shortage of free-standing buildings under 3000 sqm within the Sydney Metropolitan West markets.
