Derelict Flinders Street office building revived as Aconex moves in

Melbourne-born Aconex, the world’s most-used platform for managing construction projects, is set to move out of the city’s original GPO mail exchange into a boutique building with a customised fit-out on Flinders Street.

The move was facilitated by Edward Knowles, Colliers International Office Leasing Associate, acting for the landlord, and Adam Hodgson, Jones Lang La Salle Corporate Solutions Manager, acting for Aconex.

Aconex will vacate office space at 696 Bourke Street and relocate to the revitalised Dreman Building at 96 Flinders Street.

Mr Knowles said Aconex had made a pre-commitment to lease 1,709sq m over five levels, and were exploring the potential for constructing a roof top terrace for staff enjoyment and entertainment.

“New life has been breathed into a building that was previously vacant and quite derelict,” Mr Knowles said.

“The new fit out is funky and modern – the warehouse-style refurbishment is a perfect fit for the building and also for its new occupants.

“Aconex is an innovative business whose 400 staff worldwide share a unique culture. They have set about creating a dynamic new environment for their staff.”

Aconex will occupy the entire six-level building, which has circa 350sq m floorplates and will also house a new restaurant on Level 1, separately accessed from Duckboard Place at the rear of the building.

“Aconex will have its own exclusive entrance to the front of the building, separated from the restaurant,” Mr Knowles said.

Mr Hodgson said the building offered a prime Flinders Street location; flexible floorplates with high exposed ceilings and expansive windows with views over the Botanic Gardens and Melbourne’s sporting precinct.

Aconex is a Melbourne company with more than 10 years’ experience working with top owners, project managers and contractors on projects of all shapes and sizes, including Eureka Tower, New York City Hall and the Panama Canal expansion.

Aconex co-founder Rob Phillpot said: “We’re excited to be moving into this newly-refurbished building.  It gives us both a highly visible head office location and quality workspace for our developers, sales team and other staff.  It’s a move that will support our growth here in Australia and overseas.”

The floorplate vacated by Aconex at 696 Bourke Street was now available for lease to a new occupant. Contact Edward Knowles on 0400 680 526 for further details.
