Over 180 guests attended the event at Blackbird Bar & Grill Restaurant in Brisbane City and were entertained by Dave Thornton, an Australian stand-up comedian, actor, television and radio presenter. The money was raised through corporate sponsorships and donated items that were raffled off and auctioned on the day.
“We were delighted with the money raised and thank our key clients and suppliers for supporting Colliers International business and our brand in the community,” said Simon Beirne, Queensland Chief Executive at Colliers International who is also on the PIF’s Board of Advisers in Queensland.
“This year the proceeds will go towards the first PIF House in Brisbane which once built will provide 12 bedrooms for homeless young people. Brisbane Youth Service, who will operate the facility, will support and mentor these young people during a transitional period of 1 to 2 years before they move onto permanent housing,” said Mr Beirne.
Development approval was received this year to refurbish the existing 3-bedroom house on the property and build an additional three 2-bedroom and three 1-bedroom units.
To deliver the project by late 2020 PIF need to raise a total of $2.2m. With only $436,000 raised to date they rely on companies and people across the property industry to provide in-kind services, professional advice, goods and donations to build homes and bedrooms for the homeless youth.
The mission of the Property Industry Foundation is to make a tangible difference to the serious and persistent problem of youth homelessness by partnering with respected charities to build safe environments and support charity-managed initiatives focused on education, employment and well-being. Kate Mills, CEO of PIF said: “Everything we do is made possible through the generous support of the corporate donors such as Colliers International, who have contributed $1.7m in total donations to date. “We work with corporate donors and charity partners in Queensland, NSW and Victoria to help rebuild young lives. One of our key objectives over the next two years is to deliver a total of 125 bedrooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – so that young people have a secure place to call home.
