Meet our Expert Lisa Hinde

Q: How long have you been in the real estate industry and how did you come to join Colliers?
This is my 11th year working in property. I began my career in a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy, followed by 6 years at another agency leading their national sustainability consulting team. I joined Colliers as I was inspired by their strong commitment to transforming real estate through embedding ESG principles internally as well as supporting clients with their targets. 

Q: How do you think you use your expertise to add value to clients?  
I enjoy listening to individual challenges our clients face and curating a solution that best suits their needs. ESG standards in the property industry are rapidly evolving and helping clients understand this new terrain and how they can adapt and leverage this to their advantage is key. 

Q: What is the most fulfilling thing about your role? 
Seeing the ‘a-ha’ moment on a clients face when all of the pieces come together for a strategy or project. Also seeing how engaged internal members of the Colliers team are when it comes to sustainability and the huge amount of capacity our teams have to embed these principles in their jobs gives me a lot of hope for the future of real estate in addressing global challenges. 

Q: Can you think of a transaction or project that you’re particularly proud of? What did you do to ensure its success? 
In a past life, I was responsible for developing and administering the Lendlease Commercial and Industrial operational sustainability, health and wellbeing strategy in line with national and global ESG frameworks. To top the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) survey, it is a marathon not a sprint. As part of that role, I’m most proud of developing a strategy that facilitated collaboration from the client, contractors, tenants and building management teams to implement some very unique initiatives.  We are now in a unique position at Colliers to scale these industry-leading strategies and initiatives across a greater cross section of asset classes and clients. 

Q: What do you think the opportunity is for your clients' real estate strategies in the current environment?
Anticipating and preparing for future investor requirements when it comes to emerging ESG frameworks. The ideal situation (and what our team is currently working on) is to foresee these needs and supply the solutions ahead of mandates being issued. Communicating that we have their future risks covered ahead of time as our new ‘business as usual’ will be potent for attracting and retaining key clients into the future.

Lisa is Head of Sustainability at Colliers for the Real Estate Management Services (REMS) team and her key focus is developing long term sustainability, health and wellbeing strategies to support her colleagues and Clients' ambitions.

This involves integrated planning and management of new and existing asset performance using industry best practice. She builds strategies by drawing on her extensive experience with sustainability, health and wellbeing tools such as Green Star, the WELL Building standard, Climate Active (net zero / carbon neutral) and Circular Economy principles. Her work is globally recognised as enabling scalable solutions to complex challenges in the built environment.

As well as leading the REMS sustainability team for Australia, Lisa supports Colliers Global ESG committee through her role on the steering committee for Asia Pacific and leading the Environmental pillar regionally.  This role supports Colliers long term strategy to develop and execute a robust ESG program including committments to Science Based Targets Initiative and achieving net zero status by 2030.   

As a natural collaborator, she has a keen interest in developing practical strategies to assist with a streamlined application of sustainability initiatives, translating executive goals into hands on implementation.
