Sale/Lease Date: March 2020
The Property: Large industrial estate
The Challenge: In March, we were negotiating with an industrial occupier on behalf of our landlord. When the environment changed, two out of three directors for the occupier were in lockdown overseas throughout the negotiation process.
The Process: Our expert John Carney stayed persistent throughout the circumstances to help complete the negotiation. We invested in our relationship with our client by maintaining daily contact. It was essential that we demonstrated to the client that they were experts who could provide reassurance at every step of the process. When the occupier expressed concerns about the situation in Australia and believed they would need to delay when unable to sign the agreements in person in Australia. We helped secure alterative ways including scanning of documents rather than signing in person.
The Result: The Gateway Estate was sold to ESR by Gavin Bishop (National Director | Industrial) in 2015, and Colliers International has been securing lessees for the asset since then, including Australia Post and St Vincent de Paul. While securing a lessee off-market presented many challenges, the team’s brand dominance in the area increased reassurance and trust within the local client. This director was able to provide comfort to the two directors in isolation overseas, reassuring them that they were dealing with experts.
At Colliers, our experts maximise the potential of property to accelerate the success of our people and our clients.
