Rising though the Colliers ranks, Matthew now leads Australia’s largest commercial sales team.

Matthew began his real estate career nearly 30 years ago, starting in residential before transitioning into commercial. With 12 years at Colliers now under his belt, he is responsible for running the National Investment Services business across Australia.

Q: How long have you been in the real estate industry and how did you come to join Colliers International?

I started my career in 1992 working in residential for Nationwide, ironically this is now owned by Colliers International – so you could say working at Colliers was “always meant to be”.  

Between 1997-2006 I bought and grew my own residential sales and management business, but I always knew commercial real estate was where I planned to develop my career.  

Colliers had always been on my radar, as a reputable tier 1 firm with a major presence in the market. Even back in 2008, I knew their national platform had market cut through and felt my ambition would be a welcome match. 

Q: Tell us a bit more about your biggest achievement at Colliers. And how has the business fulfilled you for 12 years?

I started as an executive based in our South Sydney office back in 2008, just as the GFC was taking shape. In a time of uncertainty, not too dissimilar to now, I identified a gap in the Insolvency market and wrote a business plan to launch Colliers Insolvency Property Services. Now rebranded as Restructuring Property Services, I have grown our market share to 45%.

Even within the GFC, the Colliers leadership team embraced and championed the growth of a new initiative, reinforcing Colliers’ enterprising culture and resilience. 

Over a five-year period, I moved into the Sydney CBD office and became a National Director, before taking on the responsibility of the Head of Investment Services four years ago.

Throughout each stage of my Colliers career, the business and leadership team have empowered me, through their platform and resources, to realise my potential. These values have kept me motivated, allowed me to grow my career, and developed me into the real estate professional I am today.

As a leader within the business nothing fulfils me more than instilling these principles in my team and championing their success.
