Trinity College commits to vertical campus in Melbourne CBD

Colliers International secures renowned tenant for education component at 611 Elizabeth St

Trinity College at the University of Melbourne is set to open a new CBD campus at PDG’s new 70,000sqm redevelopment project at 611 Elizabeth Street.

Colliers International’s Edward Knowles and Michael Darvell have negotiated a new 10-year lease to Trinity College for 9,500sqm in Stage One of PDG’s Elizabeth Street project.

“The creation of a second campus will provide another world-class facility for our international Foundation Studies students, following on from the opening of our Gateway Building in 2017,” Trinity College CEO, Professor Ken Hinchcliff, said.

“Students will learn in another purpose-built Trinity teaching and learning building close to our Parkville campus and the Universtiy of Melbourne. The new building will include dedicated recreational and study spaces, as well as teaching and learning facilities optimally designed for learning by our talented students.”

Mr Knowles said Trinity College would share the newly developed site with Melbourne City Toyota in Stage 1 of the 611 Elizabeth Street project, which consists of a 20,000sqm new building.

Above the heritage building will sit a new vertical campus, designed by acclaimed architects Gray Puksand, which will be the new home of Trinity College’s Foundation Studies program in the CBD.

The 7,000sq m site at 611 Elizabeth Street is owned by PDG across Stages 1 and 2.

“It is primed to become Melbourne’s newest education and bio-medical precinct, with three towers offering circa 70,000sqm of commercial buildings due for construction by mid-2022,” Mr Darvell said. “The location is complemented by the existing world-class tertiary precinct and will be further enhanced by metro tunnel completion with Parkville Station positioned less than 2 minutes walk from the site.”

PDG outlined their commitment to creating a world class precinct in partnership with Trinity College and the progress of this development.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Trinity College in developing its state-of-the-art teaching campus in the heart of Melbourne’s Education and Biomedical Hub,” Sebastian Mahoney, Development Director at PDG, said.

“Achieving this significant milestone is in line with PDG’s strategic vision for Elizabeth North, as well as the State’s planning framework, which is to target a range of educational, research and medical uses in creating an internationally renowned knowledge district in this part of Melbourne.

“This also now completes the final pre-commitments for Stage 1 which is now 100% leased with construction targeted to commence in the coming months.”
