In 2017, people aged 65 and over comprised 15.0% of Australia's total population, totalling around 3.8 million people and is expected to increase between 21.0% and 23.0% by 2066 (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2019). The proportion of owner-occupiers in this age group has declined since 2016 due to housing prices, outright debt, living preferences, and housing assistance transition.
