History and contemporary elegance combine at Classic East Melbourne

One of East Melbourne’s most picturesque locations, including one of its oldest mansions, is set to be revitalised and re-born as a trio of sophisticated residences.

Classic East Melbourne, a joint project by Brookfield and Cbus Property, is a collection of three unique residential buildings featuring 64 large-format apartment residences.

Colliers International has been appointed as exclusive marketing agent for the project.

Located beside the Pullman Hotel, Classic East Melbourne will restore and transform the historic Mosspennoch House. The stately Clarendon Street manor will become six prestige apartments.

A seven-level building, known as 22 Clarendon, will feature 11 half-floor apartments alongside Mosspennoch and a full-floor penthouse boasting a wrap-around balcony with 360 degree views.

Complementing these buildings is a third residence, Parade, on Wellington Parade, which will feature 46 apartments, including two penthouses, across 14 levels.

Parade will feature a large communal garden on level four, located on the northern side of the building. Mosspennoch and 22 Clarendon will be linked via a large courtyard.

Parade and 22 Clarendon have been designed by renowned architects Bates Smart, and will be positioned alongside Melbourne’s famous Fitzroy Gardens precinct.

Leading heritage architect Lovell Chen will oversee the restoration of Mosspennoch, which will feature mansion-style apartments that merge old and new.

In addition, the façade of the former MCG Hotel on Wellington Parade will be incorporated into the overall design of Classic East Melbourne, with the space being transformed into a luxurious three bedroom residence.

“South-facing apartments will enjoy uninterrupted views over the MCG, Yarra Parklands and Melbourne’s world-class entertainment precinct,” Mr Griffith said. “Meanwhile the apartments facing north will benefit from a year-round sunny aspect and provide views across East Melbourne’s classic residential neighbourhood.

“East Melbourne lies only minutes from the centre of Australia’s most vibrant city, but it is surrounded by serene green parks with expanses of lush lawn, magnificent trees and tranquil grottoes.

“Just beyond the Fitzroy Gardens lies the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street with its high-end boutiques and global fashion houses. Also nearby are Melbourne Museum, Parliament House, Old Treasury Building, the Melbourne Arts Centre, National Gallery of Victoria and Federation Square."

Classic East Melbourne is scheduled for completion in early 2018.
