Heading South West is key to breaking into Sydney market

The Atrium at Liverpool offers an affordable option for first home buyers in Sydney.

A new development in Liverpool is giving first home buyers the chance to get their foot on the Sydney property ladder, which for many seems out of reach.

The Atrium, which is being marketed by Colliers International, is located at 21 Aitkinson Street in the South West Sydney suburb of Liverpool, with one bedroom apartments starting for as little as $415,000.

Selda MacDonald, Director of Project Marketing at Colliers International, says the price point presents a unique opportunity for first home buyers to enter the Sydney market.

“The average price of a one bed, one bath and one car apartment at Atrium is $463,000, a two bedroom is $570,000 and the average price for a three bedroom is going for $663,000, although prices may be higher or lower than this depending on the unit you choose,” Ms MacDonald said.

“The two bedroom and three bedroom apartments both have two bathrooms and the three bedroom apartment has two car spaces. The Strata, council and water rates for the property are also very affordable, something which is appealing to a first home buyer.”

“Historically, Sydney’s high prices have made it difficult for first home buyers to break into the market.  The Atrium prices are far lower than the average cost of an apartment in Sydney, making it an ideal pick for someone who is looking to get their foot on the property ladder.”

The Domain Rental and House Price report for the December 2016 quarter recorded the average price of a one bedroom apartment in Sydney at $711,256.

Selda MacDonald of Colliers International says that low prices does not mean that apartments in The Atrium will compromise on quality.


“These are generous one, two and three bedroom layouts with free-flowing open plan living and high-end finishes including Miele appliances, stone benchtops and timber floors,” Selda MacDonald said.

The Atrium is walking distance to Liverpool train station and buses with easy access to the Hume Highway, M5 Motorway and Westlink M7 connecting to all reaches of Sydney.

Liverpool City Council is one of the largest councils in NSW with an operating budget of $214 million.

The suburb plays a major retail role in Sydney’s South West and is home to Liverpool Hospital, which is the largest hospital in Sydney.

Liverpool offers exceptional tertiary education including TAFE and soon to open new campus of Western Sydney University and Wollongong University.

“LiverpooI is set to receive more investment infrastructure than any other Australian city, and has already undergone major development in recent years,” said Ms Macdonald.

“This includes the revitalisation of the Macquarie Street Mall, the extension of the line from Bankstown to Liverpool and a capital expenditure increase of 46%, from $62 million to $91 million, with more investment expected, including Liverpool welcoming Sydney’s second international airport.”

The Atrium, which spans 134 apartments, is being developed by the Synergy Development Group and is due for completion in 2019.
