Largest office leasing transaction in Fyshwick this year.
After almost seven years untenanted, 165 Canberra Avenue in Fyshwick has being fully-leased by Canberra IT start-up company, Seeing Machines. The deal represents the largest office leasing transaction in Fyshwick so far this year.
Seeing Machines currently employs just under 200 people in the Canberra headquarters across two locations on Lonsdale Street, Braddon.
Seeing Machines develop life-saving technology that is in high demand. They provide safety solutions to commercial fleet and transport companies, off-road and mining organisations, driver monitoring systems for automotive original equipment manufacturing, and training and safety solutions for aviation.
Relocating staff to one location will allow Seeing Machine to upgrade their labs and working environments with equipment and facilities needed to continue to deploying their computer vision technologies in cutting-edge worldwide applications.
Seeing Machines has appointed Canberra-based interior design studio, Core Interiors, to design their fitout and expect to move into their new premises by early September.
Nicole Makin, Senior Vice President People, Culture and Quality at Seeing Machines said, “This move has been a long time coming for Seeing Machines and we are really looking forward to having the entire Canberra-based team together in one location.
“Due to the ongoing demand for our products, we are rapidly outgrowing our current premises so it’s going to be great to have enough space to continue that growth comfortably.”
According to Aaron Bruce, Office Leasing Executive at Colliers International, office vacancy in Fyshwick is high with limited demand, especially for large spaces. The vast majority of office leasing transactions in Fyshwick over the past 12 months ranged between 100 and 500 sqm.
“Tenants looking for office space in Fyshwick have many options, whether they are looking for a small 80 sqm office, larger premises of more than 1,000 sqm or fitted out spaces,” said Aaron.
165 Canberra Avenue was purpose built for an IT company in 1994. It is a two-storey building and has a gross floor area of 3,217 sqm with 94 apron car parks.
“The location of the building made it an attractive option as it has good proximity to amenity and easy access to Canberra CBD. It also has a unique mix of workshop area which interacts directly with the office space across the two levels,” said Aaron.
